"You just waited for the cops to come. He has blood all over him." Mr O'Shaughnesy and his brother were among members of the public praised as heroes by police for risking their lives to subdue an attacker who had tried to stab multiple people in a mid-afternoon rampage. Jamie Ingram was in a suit and tie when he followed Nay up York Street trying to distract him from his alleged rampage. "I tried to get him to focus on me rather than focus on anyone around him, so that he didn't … there were lots of pedestrians there, I didn't want him to lash out at them," Mr Ingram saidPolice Superintendent Gavin Wood said those who held down the suspect were "heroes".The knifeman is seen on Clarence Street in Sydney CBD. "He had a balaclava on and wielding a knife with blood on and we thought: 'Wow, what is going on here?'." They eventually caught up with the attacker and were among those who restrained him before police arrived. Jack Huddo, who purportedly witnessed the incident, wrote on Twitter: "A random dude just started stabbing people in the city right outside where we were having lunch. I saw people running so I ran towards him with a few other guys. The attacker appeared to be agitated and had blood splattered on his shirt and was carrying a large knife, an eye witness told radio station 2GB.Police have said Nay has no links to terror groups, and acted alone in his attack.
