Investigators learned that the driver’s account of the events were inconsistent with video taken from a store’s surveillance camera. A former armored truck driver was arrested last month after investigators determined that he was a participant in a $1.1 million robbery of his truck, records show.Maurice Mercado, a childhood friend of Martinez Rodriguez, was also arrested three days later in connection with the theft.

Martinez Rodriguez said the robber shoved him before getting into the truck and assaulting him with the gun for about 20 seconds. The man then forced him at gunpoint to drive less than a mile away to an area around Walnut Basin and Twincreek Farm, where three other armed men wearing masks started filling two bins with bags of money, according to Martinez Rodriguez’s account.

Investigators learned that Martinez Rodriguez’s account of the events were inconsistent with video taken from the AutoZone’s surveillance camera, an affidavit supporting his arrest said.
