OGDEN — Officers shot and killed an individual after the person fired a weapon at the officers who were trying to track down someone suspected in a disturbance reported early Tuesday, police say.The chain of events began when officers responded to a report of some kind of disturbance on 25th Street near 100 East shortly before 1:30 a.m.
The individual fled in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen, said Ogden Deputy Police Chief Jake Sube. Officers located the vehicle near 200 East and 17th Street but the individual fled an attempted traffic stop in the area. Officers found the vehicle again near 700 East and 8th Street. "Upon the officers' arrival at 8th Street, the driver of the suspect vehicle got out and began to fire a weapon at two officers who had not been able to get out of their vehicles," Sube said. "One of the officers was able to make his way out of his vehicle and return fire."
The individual, whose name and age and gender have not yet been released, was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two officers who were shot at were not injured. Police did not release any information about the original call and did not answer any questions during a press briefing Tuesday morning. The Weber-Morgan Critical Incident Task Force was called in to investigate the fatal police shooting. The officer who shot and killed the individual was also placed on administrative leave pending the result of the investigation, per police protocol.
