Batman’s shoes have been filled by a lot of heroes who wanted to save Gotham in his absence. Discover the top ten best Dark Knight replacements.
It’s been Batman’s sworn duty to protect Gotham and do everything he can to try and eliminate crime from it. However, Bruce Wayne is, above everything else, a man, and there are times when he can’t be the one to keep Batman active in the city. Throughout his career, Batman has either been injured, missing, or otherwise unable to fulfill his duties as the Dark Knight, leaving the role to be filled by successors.
9 Jason Todd Jason attempted to fill in for the Dark Knight not too long after he had come back from the dead. Bruce had just been seemingly killed in Final Crisis and Gotham was reaching a boiling point with villains believing that Batman was dead. Ready to show the Bat-Family how it was done, he donned his own Batsuit, and brought a brutal form of justice to Gotham. Thankfully his efforts to replace Batman were stymied by Dick Grayson.
6 Superman As DC’s two iconic heroes, it should come as no surprise that Batman and Superman have occasionally switched their costumes and served in the other’s role from time to time. As far back as World’s Finest Comics #71, the duo have repeatedly disguised themselves as one another, more often than not to protect their secret identities.
3 Tim Drake Ironically, one of the best people who have slipped on the cowl of Batman is someone who has made it quite clear that they don’t want the role. In the wake of Bruce’s ‘death’ during Final Crisis, Battle for the Cowl #2 sees Tim Drake briefly take on the Batman costume to help establish peace in a rioting Gotham. Tim’s powers of deduction have always been one of his best traits to the point that they rival, if not exceed, Batman’s abilities.
