The world champion is tipped to take home as many as three gold medals in the big air, half pipe and slope style when she starts her campaign on February 7. If she wins three golds at the Games she will triple China’s entire medal haul from Pyeongchang in 2018.Hanyu, the greatest figure skater of his generation, will attempt to match an almost century-old record in Beijing. The Japanese “ice prince” is aiming for a third successive Olympic gold medal in the men’s singles. The last man to do that was Swedish maestro Gillis Grafström in 1928.
The mixed discipline will have its Olympic debut in Beijing. Snowboard cross is similar to BMX racing in the Summer Games with competitors racing down a course of jumps and sharp turns while regularly running into each other. In the mixed teams the pair will have the added hurdle of a relay to get across the finish line.
