Ten-year-old Lily Mae Avant of Texas lost her battle with a rare but deadly brain-eating amoeba contracted over Labor Day weekend while swimming.

Before her parents knew it, Lily was fighting for her life in a Fort Worth hospital, and overnight on Monday, she sadly lost her battle. The cause?Doctor's aren't certain where the 10-year-old contracted the deadly amoeba, since she swam in multiple bodies of water in a few day's time.
"She was incoherent, unresponsive and was quickly swept up and taken to the ER," the post continued. "She fought the good fight," Lily's aunt, Crystal Warren, told WFAA. Just days earlier, she'd been hopeful the 10-year-old would pull through.Chris Dowdy, the principal at Valley Mills Elementary School where Lily attended, also remained hopeful about the girl's prognosis.
However, a sharp decline in Lily's health over the weekend proved otherwise, and she slipped away in the early morning hours of September 16.
