Labor leader Anthony Albanese has called on the federal government to dispatch its fleet of Royal Australia Air Force VIP jets to bring stranded Australians home '100 at a time'
Labor leader Anthony Albanese has called on the federal government to dispatch its fleet of Royal Australia Air Force VIP jets to bring stranded Australians home "100 at a time".because of a collapse in international flights caused by border closures and have been unable to secure or pay the inflated prices for a flight home.
He said the fleet was largely "sitting idle" and there was "nothing to stop those planes being utilised"."There are two large aircraft, but there are other smaller aircraft available as well," Mr Albanese said."It is simply unacceptable that the Prime Minister continues to say that there's nothing he can do about it and he hopes to have these families home by Christmas. Well, I think those who are desperate to get home should be brought home in September.
Mr Albanese said Mr Morrison should not blame state governments when he was in charge of the nation's border. The federal opposition has stepped up pressure on the Morrison government and state and territory premiers to, calling on national cabinet to end the "heartbreaking" stories of citizens stranded overseas.

PM continues to 'duck and weave from responsibility': Albanese | Sky News AustraliaOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese has slammed Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the federal government for not using national resources to bring stranded Australians home from overseas. \n\n“It is simply unacceptable that the prime minister continues to say there is nothing he can do about and he hopes to have these families home by Christmas,” Mr Albanese said. \n\n“Well I think those who are desperate to get home should be brought home in September. \n\n“It’s not like there’s a shortage of hotel space in this country, the prime minister might have noticed that tourists aren’t coming here and hotels certainly have available space, so it is just beyond my comprehension how the prime minister can continue to duck and weave from responsibility on this issue. \n\n“The federal government is reasonable for quarantine. This states issue is just an excuse for non-action. \n\n“The Australian government is in charge of our borders or its in charge of nothing. \n\n“The only thing that is missing here isn’t hotel space, its leadership and the prime minister can show leadership by giving his plane, which by and large is not being used at the moment, to bring Australians home.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Federal government urged to devise 'greater plans' to assist Australians stranded overseas | Sky News AustraliaPolitical consultant Jim Middleton is calling on the federal government to do more to assist Australians stranded overseas to return home. \n\nHe told Sky News there were about 25,000 Australians overseas “who are in various states of distress about whether they can get home or not”. \n\n“You would have thought that by now … that the federal government would have some greater plans to enable these people to get home should they wish to,” Mr Middleton said. \n\n“I think that by having, in fact, drawn attention to the terrible plight of that bereaving family in Queensland, the PM has effectively drawn attention to himself on what is not being done as far as getting Australians, who wish to, home from overseas. \n\n“I would have thought, and I expect and hope the government is redoubling its efforts as far as that is concerned.\n\n“It is now time, I would have thought, where they do do more, and if they do not I think it will come back to bite Scott Morrison and maybe Peter Dutton as well.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
