The help comes via the Household Support Fund – a £500 million scheme to help the lowest income families
Many families in the UK are to get an extra cash boost to help pay for the additional costs of feeding a child over the summer. The cost of living payment, that’s worth £100, is coming via the Household Support Fund . The HSF is a grant that’s given to local councils by the Department for Work and Pensions to help families in need in their area.
But it’s not the only help of this kind to be given out, similar schemes are taking place across England. We're extending the Household Support Fund with an extra £500m. On top of that, the council has also confirmed that households in need of white goods, such as ovens and fridges, will also be given help, with an additional £300,000 being made available for this purpose.Councillor Gordon Wheeler, Deputy Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health said:
While pensioners who claim Pension Credit will also be given the £100 payments, also for the summer period.
