The blaze started Saturday morning around 8 a.m. or earlier off Cannonball Road, on Ramapo Mountain State Forest and DuPont property in Pompton Lakes, the forest fire service said. The fire, referred to as the “Cannonball 2 Wildfire,” threatened five abandoned industrial structures Saturday, officials said. No residential structures were considered threatened.
In a previous update at about 7 p.m. Saturday, the fire had spread over 100 acres and was 50% contained. Firefighters will remain on the scene to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs.
