Strikes will be held on August 26, August 31, and September 8 and 9
POSTAL WORKERS STRIKE: The Communication Workers Union are demanding a “dignified, proper pay rise”
With a 77 per cent turnout, a recent ballot for strike action saw members vote by 97.6 per cent to take action. Strikes will be held on Friday, August 26, Wednesday, August 31, and September 8 and 9. “We can’t keep on living in a country where bosses rake in billions in profit while their employees are forced to use food banks. When Royal Mail bosses are raking in £758 million in profit and shareholders pocketing £400 million, our members won’t accept pleads of poverty from the company.
CWU deputy general secretary Terry Pullinger said: “Our members know full well what they are worth. They are willing to fight for a no-strings, real-terms pay rise that they are fully entitled to. “In more than three months of talks, CWU has failed to engage meaningfully on the business changes required,” it said.
Royal Mail said that, following the conclusion of negotiations with the CWU, it has given an unconditional two per cent pay increase, backdated to April 1 2022. A further 3.5 per cent increase is available, subject to agreeing on a series of changes, the company said.
