takes a look at 12 players who are on the comeback trail from injury and can boost your SuperCoach team in 2025. Smith should be the first player selected in every SuperCoach side in 2025. He ticks every box for a Supercoach perspective. Discounted price? Tick. Good role? Tick. Proven scorer? Tick. Smith will lead Geelong’s midfield charge this season and can also be selected as a forward, which is a massive plus. Averaged 98.6 points a game in 2022 and there’s no reason why he can’t push that into triple digits in 2025. Can Clayton Oliver return to the Oliver of old? Melbourne’s star midfielder averaged 120+ SuperCoach points a game for four consecutive years prior to last year’s campaign, which was plagued by an array of off-season issues and injury woes. At his price, Oliver could prove one of the biggest bargains in SuperCoach history if he can rediscover his best form. Mills had a 2024 season to forget after suffering a shoulder injury during an off-season wrestling incident with a teammate. As a result, the Sydney co-captain played just six games last year and was well down by his lofty standards. Where will Mills play his footy in 2025? A return to the midfield, where he averaged 116.6 SuperCoach points a game in 2022, or more freedom off half-back, would be music to our ears. Coleman looked poised for a breakout 2024 campaign after a cracking 2023 finals series but suffered an ACL rupture during Opening Round. The silky-smooth dashing half-back had become an integral piece to Chris Fagan’s side with his strong ball use and speed out of the back half. Coleman averaged 103.2 points over his last five games of 2023 (including finals). Given the Lions play Opening Round, we can get a look at him as well before locking him in. Fingers crossed that this young gun just gets a clean run of things. One of the most exciting draft prospects of 2022, Hewett hasn’t been able to string together many games during his short AFL career so far. A powerful midfielder who runs all day, Hewett would be a strong addition to Andrew McQualter’s side if he can get his body right. Hewett “has given himself a chance to have a great year,” according to McQualter. His dual-position status means if he’s named round one, you definitely pick him. It’s hard to fathom just how good the eldest Ashcroft kid has become in such a short space of time. Ashcroft made his return from an ACL injury late in 2024 and put together a superb finals series, culminating in winning the Norm Smith Medal on grand final day. A calm and composed operator who is elite in congestion, the sky is the limit for Ashcroft. Throughout his time in the talent pathways at the Sandringham Dragons, Ashcroft played his best football alongside younger brother Levi. He’s already etched his name into footy folklore, but Will could well and truly take his game to another level in 2025. The Gippsland Power product has had a rotten run with injuries, limiting him to just nine games throughout his AFL career so far. Can 2025 finally be the year Reid puts his struggles behind him? The Dons rate the former top 10 draft pick highly internally and he’ll likely partner Ben McKay as the two key defenders sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed he can get his body right and show the footy world what he can do. He might not necessarily be there round one, but Gibcus could be a handy pick in SuperCoach backlines at some stage in 2025. The luckless young Tiger averaged 53.9 SuperCoach points a game in 202 and scored 76 in Opening Round last year before doing his knee in round one against Carlton. When fit, Gibcus is an exciting tall defender who rules the airways with his intercept marking. Let’s just hope he gets a clean go in 2025. The two-time Geelong Best and Fairest has managed just ten games since the end of 2022 and will be hoping to bounce back and rediscover his All-Australian form in 2025. A range of injuries have cruelled Guthrie in recent times but at his best, Guthrie is a genuine gun. The star Cat averaged 113.3 SuperCoach points a game in 2021 and the Geelong midfield is crying out for some added depth. Bailey Smith will no doubt bolster that, but the addition of a fit and firing Guthrie would be huge for Chris Scott’s side. Keep an eye on his progress throughout the pre-season. This one might raise a few eyebrows, but at a heavily discounted price you would be silly not to at least consider picking the star Tiger
