After a long wait, former South Sydney player Jordan Mailata made his NFL debut for the Philadelphia Eagles but it was a tough one.
In his third season with the Eagles, Mailata held his own but much of the focus will centre on how the Eagles capitulated after leading 17-0. Injuries up front led to instability which put Philadelphia in a difficult spot against a team featuring four recent first-round picks on the defensive line plus Ryan Kerrigan, who led the way with two sacks and recovered a fumble.
Already missing three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks after he tore an Achilles tendon, the Eagles found out before the game that three-time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson couldn't play because of an ankle injury that required surgery last month. Mailata, who battled injury last season, has played in practice games for the Eagles and survived to make the 56-man roster for the season.
"I am very confident and very prepared to do whatever it takes to be on this team and perform at a high level that the coaches expect of me," Mailata told NBC Sports recently.
