A 17-year-old Roosevelt High School student was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in the school’s parking lot, according to D.C. police.
Morgan C. Kane, a D.C. assistant police chief, said the shooting followed some type of altercation, and police recovered a weapon in the parking lot, though they were unsure of its connection to the shooting.The high school is located in the 4300 block of 13th St NW. Roosevelt High, along with nearby MacFarland Middle School and Dorothy Height Elementary School, were placed on lockdown after the incident, according to D.C. public school officials.
Mariam Aydoun, 36, said her two-year-old daughter had been on the playground at her nearby day care when the gunfire started. By 4 p.m., the mother and daughter had reunited — the toddler kicking her sparkly pink shoes from her stroller. But Aydoun said the anxiety of the day lingered. She feared that one day, the call would be different, and it would be her daughter on the other end of the gun.
