Twelve months ago, this Queensland car enthusiast was standing on the side of the road watching his 1946 Chevy pick-up truck burn. Now he's ready to light up the state's biggest motoring festival.
The young revhead has worked hard to painstakingly restore the vehicle and is ready to take it to this year's festival.About 60,000 people are expected to attend the fourth instalment of Rockynats, which gets underway this week.
But 12 months later the wreck has been refurbished in time for the annual Easter long weekend auto show."I've been here from six o'clock in the morning to six o'clock at night, six days a week, just trying to pump it out and a lot of effort has gone into it."Mr Berry said his juiced-up speed machine would stand out in the crowd with its burnt exterior and a new set of numberplates that read "FIR33Y"."The support from everyone last year was crazy.
Advance Rockhampton tourism and events manager Zac Garven said the fast-growing event would bring another enormous economic boost to regional Queensland."It's the largest car and bike festival in Queensland and we can expect over $6 million in economic impact," he said.
