The cost of a new stadium at Victoria Park has been estimated at $3.4 billion, but the cheapest option for a Brisbane Olympic stadium presented to the Queensland government was just $800 million less – and the city would effectively gain nothing from it.
“It is important to note that this investment would not improve the capacity or functionality of the stadium, nor would it materially enhance spectator or stadium user experiences,” the report finds. That price tag would be partially offset by the saving of up to $360 million, which would have been needed to address the displacement of cricket and AFL during the Gabba rebuild. Under the Victoria Park option, both sports would remain at the Gabba until after the Games, when they would move into the new stadium. As for QSAC, $1.6 billion would be needed to demolish and replace the permanent western stand and build a podium for temporary stands during the Olympics.

LNP's Brisbane Metro Plan to Improve Bus CommutesMore than 54 per cent of bus commuters will have faster journeys under a radical shake-up of Brisbane’s buses – already approved by Translink – if the LNP wins City Hall on March 16. A further 33 per cent of commuters will be of the same duration on more efficient routes, while 13 per cent of bus commuters will have slightly slower bus trips, but have more suburban buses. The LNP’s plan introduces “two-seat” bus trips to Brisbane, where commuters take a suburban bus to a Brisbane Metro hub, and then travel by Metro through the CBD. Under the LNP’s $1.4 billion Brisbane Metro plan, the 60 three-car mega buses will collect passengers from suburban hubs - such as this one at University of Queensland -and carry them through the CBD on a five-minute frequency. At the 19 Brisbane Metro hubs, the suburban buses return to extra suburban bus services, while the passengers hop on to Metro rapid transit buses to travel every five minutes to the CBD
