State and federal officials announced a new round of funding for two southern Arizona ports of entry, one in San Luis and one in Douglas.
San Luis I Land Port of entry was awarded $100 million from the Inflation Reduction Act to modernize and make the facility one of the most sustainable and energy efficient ports of entries in the state, said General Services Administration Administrator Robin Carnahan Monday after a tour of the facility and meet-and-greet with local and state officials.
This is the first of $3.4 billion in General Services Administration investments aimed at meeting President Joe Biden’s goal of having net-zero emissions federal buildings by 2045, said a GSA press release. Low emmissions, or low-carbon, construction materials help decrease a building's carbon footprint, reducing emissions from building materials.
On Thursday, Gov. Doug Ducey announced the allocation of nearly $9 million in federal funding slated for the construction of a new port of entry in Douglas.
