2 burned in RV fire under freeway near Logan Heights [Breaking]
Two people were burned in a fire Friday night that destroyed a motorhome parked under state Route 15 near Logan Heights, a fire captain said.
The blaze was reported about 7:50 p.m. on National Avenue, under the freeway bridge between South 33rd and South 35th streets, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Firefighters arrived in under four minutes, according to the Fire-Rescue Department. The RV was fully engulfed in flames, fire Capt. Jack Middleton told OnScene TV.
As crews began battling the blaze, a witness approached and said there was a burn victim in need of aid about a block away, Middleton told OnScene TV. Firefighters went looking for the victim and found two people with “significant burns.” Firefighters and paramedics treated the victims at the scene before taking them to the burn unit at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, Middleton said. The captain called the blaze “non suspicious” without elaborating on what sparked it. Fire crews remained in the area until about 9:45 p.m. conducting mop-up operations.
