2 suspected shoplifters arrested after crash in La Mesa [Breaking]
Two men accused of stealing clothes from a department store were arrested Thursday after a vehicle they were riding in crashed in La Mesa as they tried to elude a deputy, a sheriff’s official said.
The incident began about 2:45 p.m. when a loss prevention employee at a Kohl’s store on Mission Gorge Road near Carlton Hills Boulevard in Santee called the Sheriff’s Department to report two men who were concealing clothes in luggage, Lt. Matthew Carpenter said.A deputy spotted the vehicle traveling south on state Route 125 near Mission Gorge Road and followed the car onto west Interstate 8, Carpenter said.
The driver took the El Cajon Boulevard exit in La Mesa. That’s when the car went up an embankment and overturned. The two men in the car tried to run away, but both were caught, Carpenter said. The driver was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of head injuries.The lieutenant said deputies found clothing in a suitcase inside the car. The men, ages 25 and 31, were expected to be booked into jail on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy, Carpenter said.
