Both victims were bitten off the shores of Ponce Inlet, a stretch of beach on a barrier island south of Daytona Beach.
According to a news release from Volusia County Beach Safety, the first incident involved a 37-year-old woman from Apopka, Florida, who was bitten on her right foot. She was in waist-deep water and didn’t see the shark that bit her. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital by Volusia County emergency services, where her injuries were considered non-life threatening.
The other victim, a 30-year-old male, was surfing near the Ponce Inlet Jetty and was bitten on the left hand. He opted to drive himself to a nearby hospital after the incident. His injury was non-life threatening as well.
