A man has been fined just $329 after 20 dogs tragically died when he crammed them into a van on a scorching hot day.

There were 44 dogs – including Beagles and Chihuahuas – in the vehicle, and 25-year-old Patrick Stokes was fined $A329 after the discovery.

The woman heard loud whimpering coming from the two vans so went over and challenged him, taking pictures, in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, a court heard. “The police alerted all forces around the country and within an hour Stokes had been stopped on the M6. Twenty of 44 puppies died after being crammed into a hot car on a scorching hot day last August. Picture: BPM/AustralscopeMichael Levy, defending, said: “The shock of him appearing at court on these charges has made sure he will not be doing anything similar in the future. I believe he should be punished by means of a conditional discharge.”
