Rutgers junior outfielder Ryan Lasko, a former standout at Jackson Memorial, was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the second round with the 41st overall pick. Those two were the only players with New Jersey ties taken on the first day of the draft. There will be plenty of intrigue when the second day of the draft begins.
Millburn ace Steven Echavarria, the 2023 NJ.com Pitcher of the Year, is still available and is currently the No. 6 best available draft prospect, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.Rounds 3-10 begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, and the draft concludes with Rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m.
