Teenagers will be nervously collecting their results on Thursday, with the spotlight on top grades as part of a plan to bring grades down to pre-pandemic levels
It's GCSE results day 2023 and teenagers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be nervously awaiting their grades. This year the proportion of top grades is expected to fall as regulators aim to bring results back in line with pre-pandemic levels.
In 2019 – the year before the pandemic – around one in five entries in England, Wales and Northern Ireland were awarded a 7/A or above. In England, exams regulator Ofqual has said this year’s GCSE results will be lower than last year and they would be similar to those in 2019. As a rule of thumb, a grade 4 is the equivalent of a C. A grade 9 is the equivalent of an A*. Grade boundaries are decided after GCSE exams are marked. They are usually released on results day, reports the Liverpool ECHO.Edexcel GCSE grade boundaries for 2023 A full list of Edexcel GCSE grade boundaries will be available here at 8am.
