If a feature film is taking too long to put together and the studio presiding over it is now controlled by an entity with little interest in theatrical releases beyond meeting awards-season qualifications, it would make a lot of sense to use the pull of Witherspoon and “Legally Blonde” to boost Prime original series, especially since TV scribe Mindy Kaling is already penning the script.

Kaling is mostly known for hit series like “The Mindy Project” and Netflix’s “Never Have I Never,” so Witherspoon and Kaling should be able to figure out how to make “Legally Blonde” work as a series. Furthermore, Amazon’s hit female-led series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has only one season left as of its final season renewal in February, making it imperative for Amazon to greenlight another series with hit potential to complement the success of new series “Reacher,” which “Maisel” was just behind in viewership during February, per Nielsen.
