Based on efforts to identify the victim locally, investigators think she could be from elsewhere. Given her estimated age, they also think she may have been a runaway. She was found in a wooded area northeast of the intersection of Clements Bridge Road and Caulfield Avenue in a spot with cornfields on both sides, according to investigation reports from the time. The area was expected to be part of the Locust Grove housing development “presently under construction,” investigators noted. The remains were found along a dirt road that was one of several in a location that could only be accessed by 4-wheel-drive vehicles.
“It’s not unreasonable to think that this was some sort of transient situation that ended up in Deptford Township,” Jones said. “I think it’s a very good possibility that she’s from outside this region.”“I’ve ways felt that it’s sad that there is someone that no one is missing. No one is calling saying it could be this girl or it could be that girl. And it’s been years.
