Melbourne radio station 3AW has revealed who will replace long-time Mornings host Neil Mitchell when he steps down in December.

Tom Elliott, who currently hosts the station's Drive program, will take over from Mitchell in mid-January in the biggest shake-up of Melbourne radio personalities in decades.

Not even an awkward call from rival radio personality John Laws, who told Mitchell"I don't like you very much," could spoil a well deserved send-off for the veteran broadcaster. "I was very lucky, radio and 3AW are my home, but after 54 years of daily journalism and daily deadlines the legs are getting a little bit tired of pedalling, I can only work one way and that's flat out.

"Ever since I started at the station in 2002, Neil has been the gold standard for how to host this iconic talkback show."
