After the Dell completed the tests, the doctors diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive degenerative disorder that damages nerve cells and causes impaired movement, stiffness, balance issues, and loss of sense of smell. According to Bega, the disease usually affects one in 100 Americans over the age of 60, and the average age of onset is around age between 62 and 65. At 42, Dell was a rare patient.

“Only 5 to 10 percent of people are diagnosed prior to age 50 with young-onset Parkinson’s, which is what Chris has,” Bega toldChris Dell copes with his disease by stretching and exercising regularly, which helps increase mobility.Because Parkinson’s has no cure and only progresses over time, Dell had few treatment options, but he was prescribed daily exercise.
