The Memphis Police Department has fired five officers following an investigation into Tyre Nichols' death during a traffic stop.

Nichols was killed during a traffic stop with Memphis Police on Jan. 7."After a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding this incident, we have determined that five MPD officers violated multiple department policies, including excessive use of force, duty to intervene, and duty to render aid," the department said in a statement Friday.
Ritz added, "As this is an open investigation, we are not able to provide additional comments or release further information at this time." The death of Nichols sparked protests throughout the weekend in Memphis calling for the release of footage from the officer-worn body cameras.
