The task force wants to see a “significant increase” in educator salaries by having the Legislature boost the basic allotment and up the required amount that districts must invest in salaries. They did not provide a specific dollar amount.

However, the state needs a better idea of which jobs are most in need. The task force said the Legislature should fund a statewide web application that gives real-time data on teacher vacancies and job availability across Texas. Currently, no such data exists.that teachers want to leave the classroom because of stress over culture war clashes and extra work added on, particularly to address the lingering effects of pandemic disruptions.

Adding more counselors and other support systems to help students would also ease teacher workloads, the task force suggested.The task force recommends establishing – and funding – a Teacher Residency program. Educators spend seven to 12 hours a week searching for instructional materials, according to one study cited by the task force.
