British Vogue’s deputy editor Sarah Harris was on the pebble beach in Monte Carlo to take in Virginie Viard’s latest collection, featuring tweed jumpsuits and poker chip-esque earrings, and redolent of Monte Carlo’s high-rolling lifestyle.
Symbols, star signs and numbers have long been associated with Chanel – Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was incredibly superstitious, and surrounded herself with talismans for protection and prosperity. . And so, there was good reason to hold Chanel’s cruise show on 5/5/22: the date contains two of the house’s signature numbers. Speaking of 22, the new 22 bag, which landed in stores what feels like mere seconds ago, is already a huge hit.
Virginie Viard invited Sofia and Roman Coppola to create a trailer starring Chanel ambassadors Lyna Khoudri, Blesnya Minher, HyunJi Shin, Mariam de Vinzelle and Vivienne Rohner. The film is spliced with archival images of Gabrielle Chanel on the French Riviera , and Chanel ad campaigns photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in Monaco. Think Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington in sequined jackets, along with footage of the Grand Prix and the Monte-Carlo Beach hotel, where the cruise show was staged.
