To celebrate Black History Month and the accomplishments of Black leaders in Conroe, the annual Leon Tolbert Jr. Black History Parade is set for noon in downtown Conroe Saturday.

The parade lineup begins at 10 a.m. along FM 2854 next to the Louisiana Pacific building. The parade ontinues through downtown making its way to Washington High School at 507 MLK Blvd.Following the parade, an awards program is scheduled in the school auditorium. Here are five things to know about Saturday’s parade.Before Leon Tolbert Jr. died in 1999, parade chairman Walter Milo said he served “served the city tirelessly,” including on the Black History Month parade commission.

Tolbert Jr. is the late father of the Chicago Bears wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator Leon “Tyke” Tolbert III, also a product of Conroe schools. The parade include floats, bands including the Conroe High School band, riders on horse, school groups, custom cars and more. in February 2017 as a mobile business providing CPR training to individuals and groups. She also helped launch a Facebook group to support Black entrepreneurs.Devin Jones will receive the Trailblazer Award. Jones is the owner of New Generations House of Funerals in Conroe. This is a newer business, opening in 2021 and serving Montgomery and Harris counties.
