This year will be particularly difficult for Granger and others on the committees. Conservative lawmakers who were key holdouts during Kevin McCarthy’s speaker election have demanded spending cuts before raising the debt ceiling. Granger has long supported defense funding. This is in part because of the impact it has on her district, which is home to thousands of employees working for Lockheed Martin, maker of the F-35 warplane, and Bell Textron, a key helicopter supplier.
