TIPP CITY, Ohio — The National Weather Service has confirmed five tornadoes touched down Wednesday in western and southwest Ohio, one of them an EF2 with winds up to 120 mph.near West Milton and Tipp City between 5:53 and 6:16 p.m. It traveled nearly 14 miles and was about 150 yards wide, according to the Weather Service. The tornado heavily damaged a Meijer distribution center and several empty semi trailers were overturned or rolled.

The tornado in Clark County was on the ground for nearly 30 minutes, traveling 17 miles with maximum winds of 90 mph. According to the Weather Service, hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted, and several homes suffered damage. In Urbana County, an EF0 tornado with maximum winds of 75 mph was on the ground for about three minutes, covering just over two miles. The tornado uprooted and snapped trees along its path, the Weather Service says.

An EF0 tornado was on the ground for nearly 10 minutes in Champaign County, traveling 4.6 miles with maximum winds of 85 mph. The tornado destroyed a barn, damaged homes and snapped and uprooted trees, the Weather Service says.Tornadoes are ranked with the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with an EF0 the weakest and an EF5 the strongest .
