HS usually shows up after puberty, and it’s common for symptoms to flare shortly before or during your period.1 When someone with HS is pregnant, it can get even more complicated. For starters, being pregnant can affect the lumps, cysts, and fluid-filled nodules caused by the chronic condition.
You may be at risk for certain pregnancy complications There is some evidence that people with HS have a slightly higher risk of miscarriage, pregnancy-related or gestational diabetes, and blood pressure disorders, like preeclampsia, a serious condition that can develop after the midpoint of pregnancy.4 However, there’s an important point here: Most people with HS don’t develop these problems.
