Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted and School of Science and Engineering – both part of Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center – were recognized.

The Yvonne A Ewell Townview Center houses six high-performing magnet schools, including the School for the Talented and Gifted. Townview is in Dallas' low-income Oak Cliff neighborhood, just blocks from Roosevelt High, another magnet struggling to raise its performance.Half a dozen Dallas-area schools were honored Friday as National Blue Ribbon Schools for their academic success or progress in closing achievement gaps.

“As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children,” U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a release. “Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives.

Grand Prairie’s Collegiate Institute and St. John The Apostle Catholic School in North Richland Hills were also honored.
