Lou’s Burgers in Sacramento was known for affordable burgers under $10, milkshakes and 1950s drive-in vibes.
Sacramento has a bevy of well-loved burger joints. It’s almost a rite of passage on your way to Tahoe. But one legendary 65-year-old drive-in is closing its doors for the last time Saturday. The news was announced on the restaurant's Instagram page. Lou’s Burgers, at 6229 Watt Ave. in North Highlands, was known for its affordable burgers — $6.35 for a single, $7.50 for a double and $9.10 for a triple — and its old-school decor.
On Facebook, longtime customers lamented the loss of a neighborhood favorite. “You will be missed. Have been coming there as far back as I can remember,” wrote Nellie Burnett. “Lou’s was our high school hang out. My boyfriend ,now husband ,and I had our names carved on the original picnic tables !” Tara Wood echoed those sentiments. “Some of my earliest childhood memories are from this place. … This will be a huge loss to the Highlands community.
