The NSW government’s grand plan to tear down Sydney’s Allianz Stadium has been put on hold after a judge intervened today.

Source:News Corp Australia Demolition work at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium has been put on hold after a judge issued a temporary injunction delaying the project until next month. Justice Nicola Pain applied a temporary injunction in the Land and Environment Court on Tuesday restricting hard demolition work on the stadium until March 8, while she considers a legal challenge to stop the stadium from being levelled.

Local Democracy Matters’ legal bid is being heard concurrently with an action brought by Waverley Council, which is also challenging the stadium knockdown. Local Democracy Matters lawyer Tim Robertson argued in favour of the injunction on Monday ahead of the judge’s ultimate decision. “Demolition of the stadium is irreversible and will effectively decide the outcome of the case if it goes ahead before Your Honour has an opportunity to reach judgment on it,” he said.
