Building off the popular movie franchise, many A Nightmare on Elm Street theories exist that completely transform the existing stories.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While A Nightmare on Elm Street is a brilliant horror franchise on its own, many theories change the impact of the movies. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street helped define modern horror and propel the careers of now-famous actors. With the success of the first movie, the Freddy Krueger franchise expanded to include nine movies, a TV series, twelve novels, and numerous comic books.

7 Freddy Krueger Gets His Powers From His Victims One of the most interesting questions about A Nightmare on Elm Street is how Freddy Krueger got his powers. Depending on the movie, Freddy either made a deal with dream demons or exists as a supernatural being. In both circumstances, he has the basic abilities to enter dreams, kill people in both the dream world and real life, and reviving to his ghostly/dream demon state. However, the serial killing villain still has powers outside those limits.

Despite the different tactics, one Reddit user u/C_Me found one connecting thread between all these situations, theorizing a single method of killing Freddy Krueger. A character must lucid dream, believing strongly enough in their dream that they can manipulate it to kill him. In order for this theory to be true in every movie, the “reality” people pull Freddy into would need to be another layer of a dream as well, ala Inception.

4 Freddy Krueger Is Nancy’s Biological Father Throughout the “Nancy” trilogy of A Nightmare on Elm Street movies, Freddy seems more vengeful and cruel towards Nancy than anyone else. He picks off Nancy’s friends, one by one, leaving her isolated and terrified. This seems more systematic and intentional than in the other movies. Additionally, Nancy’s mom, Marge, has one of Freddy’s gloves, an odd object to have unless two people have a relationship of some kind.

2 Freddy’s First Victim Is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo In the 2010 reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy Krueger is a child rapist instead of a child murderer. One of his many victims in this movie is a teenage girl named Nancy Holbrook. Rooney Mara is the phenomenal actor who plays Nancy in the 2010 reboot, but she also plays a major role in another famous reboot.
