NDIS and Government Services Minister Bill Shorten says Robodebt was an “unlawful debt raising scheme” against nearly half a million vulnerable Australians.
Mr Shorten’s remarks come after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a Royal Commission into the previous government’s Robodebt scheme on Thursday.
“We don’t know how it came to be and why they kept doing it for four and a half years with no legal authority,” Mr Shorten told Sky News Australia. He said the royal commission provides closure to the victims who were “shamed” and branded as “welfare cheats”.
