Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says people need to “chill out,” insisting he was approached by NBA star Shaquille O’Neal to give his support to the government’s Indigenous Voice to Parliament proposal.
Mr O’Neal briefly joined the Prime Minister on Saturday at a media conference following a meeting, which Mr Albanese said was the basketball player’s idea. However, his appearance sparked backlash from Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe and CLP Senator Jacinta Price, who have questioned his relevance to the issue.“And one of the things we need to do is to raise awareness in the community that this referendum is coming, that there is a need for debate around it.”
