There has been a swift and savage reaction after bombshell text messages were revealed between Home Affairs Secretary Michael Pezzullo and Liberal powerbroker Scott Briggs. Many believe Mr Pezzullo's time in the role is over after he was forced to step aside on Monday while the matter is investigated. Mr Pezzullo is suspected of breaching the Public Service code of conduct as found in the leaked text messages to Mr Briggs. The Home Affairs Secretary was critical of senior Liberal figures and pushed for particular appointments inside the Party. Former NSW premier Bob Carr says Mr Pezzullo “must have been living on another planet”.
