ANU’s Professor John Blaxland says it is “so important” for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to be at the NATO meeting in Madrid.
“We need to make sure that we’re on good terms with the French, there’s many of those countries actually operating extensively in the Pacific, the United States, the UK, France, Canada,” he told Sky News Australia.
Professor Blaxland said the invitation extended to North Korea, Japan and New Zealand to participate in the meeting meant it would be “completely inappropriate” for Australia not to be present.
