The latest numbers mark a drop in numbers from Friday's 208 new infections, and Saturday's 190 new cases and take the state's total active cases to 1,714. "Not only do I want Christmas to be as close to normal as possible, I want to do everything I can and appeal to our community to join me in that work to make sure that the tasks, the burden, the challenge that particularly our nurses face in the coming weeks and months, let's not make that job any harder than is already is.
"Every appointment that gets made, every shot in the arm between now and then will break that date forward," he said. "I don't want people locked out of their state and I don't want people locked in their homes either. Between now and then we have to keep the cases as low as we can, otherwise just making the job of our nurses even harder," he said.
