One Big Switch Campaign Director Joel Gibson says rising power prices now are the result of what happened in the wholesale market six months ago.

“Wholesale prices started rocketing upwards since the beginning of the year really,” he told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“That was driven mainly by shortages of black coal – soaring commodity prices in black coal, soaring gas prices, coal power stations that were down because of maintenance or unplanned outages.“We haven’t even seen yet the impact of the chaos of the last month or so.”
