The three-story home designed by Atlee B. Ayres for a prominent local jeweler is on the market for $1.7 million. SanAntonio SATX SanAntonioTX Texas beautifulhome uniquehome historical architecture architect

If Ayres' name sounds familiar, it's because he designed many of San Antonio's grand Spanish Colonial Revival homes, including the one that became the McNay Art Museum. Additionally, he served as state architect of Texas and designed a number of courthouses.

Ayres designed this 4,200-square-foot King William home for Gus Kray, a prominent jeweler, and it eventually became the home of attorney Frank Enriquez and his wife, according to online histories and property records. The current owner listed it for sale late last month. Located across from King William Park, the property is one of the most striking in the historic district with its towering pillars and balconies sprouting from both the second and third stories. The sales listing trumpets the three-bedroom, three-bath home's"spacious family rooms" along with the original wood flooring and three fireplaces.
