REVIEW | Bump's new season begins in delightfully fine form, maintaining a balance of organic, low-key comedy and drama across a complement of characters and storylines offering something for viewers of every generation, writes bradnewsome | ★★★★★ |

Oly and Santi continue their journeys into parenthood in season 2 of Bump.was, fittingly enough, an unexpected joy. It was thoughtful, tough and truthful, not to mention genuinely funny. It had a really big heart too, finding ways for its characters to include and accommodate each other, even where their world views were fundamentally incompatible - which is something it seems we’re all increasingly needing to do in real life.

There’s a similarly tricky co-parenting arrangement going on with Oly’s separated parents Angie and Dom , who are taking turns living with Oly and Jacinda in the family home. Oly characterises her mum as a tragic, lonely bird-lady for the way she spends the rest of the time in her new flat, while Dom laments how hard it is for a middle-aged man to make new friends – even after you’ve bonded with a bloke over your shared love of limited-edition Radiohead jigsaw puzzles.

To this day nobody has been arrested for the murder, and the pact of silence among the townsfolk who were there seems nearly as strong as ever. It’s a fascinating story in its own right, but in this engrossing docu-series director Avi Belkin is just as interested in how that one act of violence cursed the town.
