The 26-year-old from Box Hill South works as a receptionist at Deakin University and rents in the marginal electorate of Chisholm, held by Liberal MP Gladys Liu.

“And 22 cents off fuel as well, feels like, they are targeting vulnerable people or families. It’s a budget aimed at people already doing more with less.”Mr Mahoney said he’d be looking out for extra support to help people access good affordable rental properties. “When you are living with people who aren’t full time employed, even a $40 increase a month really affects them. That small increase … our landlord put the rent up every six months it became unmanageable.”

“How can I live happily through my retirement and not be in fear of suffering, I guess, without appropriate care,” he wondered. “The state of aged care accommodation is of concern, we are all going to be affected by that in some way or another.”
