But then the other part of me is wondering why our most effective and successful individuals aren’t Silver Ferns. I think if we focus in on Peta, who we all know, think and agree collectively as a netball community will actually change that Ferns attacking end if she got an opportunity to take the court against either the Roses or Diamonds. I feel like she would set the court on fire again.I think what Dame Noels is maybe focusing on is if she can do that consistently for 60 minutes. And as she continues to miss selection, I’m not convinced she truly can anymore. Not against a Jamie-Lee Price.
I think the emphasis is going on fitness because we’re putting it on fitness and I’m saying we as the netball community. We’re not actually seeing the bigger picture and it’s quite alarming. What worked for the era when Noels came in and put these standards in, which was 2019, she had a different breed of athlete.
Maybe those standards don’t necessarily align with the athletes of today. Maybe they need to be altered. Five years is a long time. So much has changed.It’s really hard to see these girls put in all this effort and it’s very clear they are trying to do as much as they can but there is a breakdown somewhere.The one thing I do admire is Noels is actually willing to give people a chance.
