A 'behind the scenes' view of a weather expert testifying before Congress

Once on “The Hill,” we checked in through security and navigated our way to the “cloakroom” for the House Science Committee. It is located in the Rayburn House Office Building. Cloakrooms are off to the side of the hearing rooms. They are like “green” or “ready” rooms. They have coffee, televisions to watch other hearings, and other lounge amenities. As the start time neared, we were promptly escorted into the hearing room .
Overall, I found a rather surprising spirit of inquiry and bipartisanship on a topic that is often”framed as controversial.” Candidly, that is pre-historic thinking. Our lawmakers increasingly understand the threats of extreme weather to their constituents, water supply, public health, agricultural productivity, infrastructure, economy and national security.
