‘A disaster’: Matildas coach Gustavsson to meet FA after Asian Cup failure | Dominic Bossi
Tony Gustavsson will have to explain himself to Football Australia after overseeing a failed Asian Cup campaign with the Matildas, but his position as coach doesn’t appear to be under threat just yet.
Johnson is in Oman ahead of the Socceroos World Cup qualifier on Wednesday morning and was unavailable for comment on Monday. While senior FA sources said they are unhappy with the results, it’s understood they remain supportive of the coach. Following the lacklustre finish to the Asian Cup and an inconsistent Olympics campaign, it became evident there was little difference between the two modes.“Criticise me for what I could have done better because that’s what the game is about,” he said. “I’ve been around the game long enough for two decades to know it’s not going to be on me now and I take full ownership of that.
