The incident is an escalation after multiple instances of vandalism in the eastern suburbs, member for Vaucluse Kellie Sloane said.
A ute was set on fire and another dozen cars vandalised in what police are describing as a “political” incident in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Just after midnight on Wednesday, Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to extinguish the ute fire near Matt Moran’s Chiswick restaurant in Woollahra.When police arrived they discovered a dozen cars on Wellington, Ocean, Tara and Fullerton streets had been vandalised with spray paint. Multiple cars parked outside Chiswick had been targeted.Some cars had graffiti reading “f --- Israel” and others said “PKK is coming”.
“These disgraceful attacks on the Jewish community must stop. Violence and intimidation have no place in our city,” she said. “The eastern suburbs has endured ongoing acts of vandalism, hate and abuse since October 7. This escalation is deeply troubling.”The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has reported many instances of anti-Israel and antisemitic graffiti in the eastern suburbs in the past 12 months, including the word “Hamas” being painted on buildings.
